Botox vs. Dermal Fillers and Other Skin Treatments: A Complete Comparison Guide

Updated: Jan 8

A lot of clients ask if they should go with Botox treatments or one of our other skin rejuvenation treatments like a dermal filler or a chemical peel.

The answer depends on your goals.

Botox relaxes the facial muscles that create those unwanted wrinkles including crow's feet, frown lines, and forehead lines. Regular Botox injections can actually prevent deeper wrinkles from forming by limiting the repetitive muscle movements that are causing the wrinkles.

The many advantages of Botox are that your treatment can be completed in as little as 20 minutes, you'll see visible improvement in 3 to 7 days, and you will have very little downtime. Most of our clients get right back to work or a social event, the very same day.

Because of it's nature, the results are highly repeatable so you'll get consistent results with each Botox treatment. Botox works below the skin and is the perfect solution to reduce wrinkles due to muscle movements such as around the eyes (crow's feet), under the eyes (baggy eyes), and on the forehead (frown lines).

Another advantage of Botox is that it is non-surgical. And, if you're concerned about the results, the effects wear off naturally in 3 to 4 months.

In comparison, dermal fillers help restore the fullness of the skin and underlying structures such as bone and fat, that we lose over time. They're made of hyaluronic acid and have results that are immediate, and can last 12 to 18 months. Dermal fillers help improve balance and harmony of the face, and can also help improve unwanted texture in the skin.

Chemical peels help improve skin quality by exfoliating the skin to remove damaged layers. A peel is a great choice if you have issues with your skin texture or pigment, such as damage due to acne or sun damage to the skin. It has a 3 to 6 day downtime after your treatment while the skin is actively being replaced by fresh, new cells.

Botox is the answer if you're looking for fast results to reduce forehead lines, crow's feet, or frown lines. The procedure is completed in as little as 15 minutes. The results last for up to 4 months. And, because it is non-surgical, you have almost zero downtime.

But, what if you also want to improve the quality or volume of your skin? Consider combining your Botox treatments with a dermal filler, chemical peel, or Microneedling, which can stimulate collagen production to rejuvenate and restore your skin’s natural glow.
